"Spent a few days in Queretaro and stayed with Shelley. Listen, you heard it here - if you're in Queretaro and stay anywhere else, you are making one big mistake. She has a nice place, it's quiet, she'll fix you the best breakfast you will eat in Mexico, prices are good, and she is just plain nice.

Queretaro is a beautiful colonial city that is easy to navigate on foot and is not touristy. Sometimes I would take a photo of a doorway, balcony, or patio I just happened to pass by because it was so ornate and beautiful. You can get a nice view of the city from the Mirador. If you«re into colonial churches, you will be in hog heaven. There are also a number of interesting museums. Some review the history of the city with an emphasis on the Independence movement, and another one, Casa de la Zacatecana, actually involves a murder mystery. Plenty of good eats.

I personally much prefer Queretaro to San Miguel. Don't get me wrong; San Miguel is lovely. It's just that IMO, Queretaro is Mexican, while San Miguel is not."

“Many, many thanks for your kindness and help. Be assured we will recommend you at every opportunity. Best regards.” Jim

“You are highly recommended. I really enjoyed visiting with you. I get all excited about Queretaro and would have loved to find a nice place to rent like you found for your New York guest, Cynthia. I loved downtown. We walked around and sat in the park in the cool shade. I always like the old part of towns but I realized driving out that it’s a big city. It was wonderful, thanks for a very enjoyable time. You have a friend in Patzcuaro. Funny when you meet someone and it is instant like.Take care. I would love to be able to visit again.” Barbara

"I wanted to let all of you know that while vacationing in Queretaro we found a great place to stay, with Shelley at "HOME". It was a charming guesthouse for tourists in the Central Historic area. I had read postings from guests of Shelley's on internet forums. She is a FUN lady from Canada who remodeled and created a nice place for tourists to stay, simply called "HOME". The location of "HOME" couldn't be better; we were a few blocks to everything!

This is not like staying at a fancy B&B, it's more like visiting with your favorite sister. It is a very family-friendly too. "HOME" has 5 bedrooms available, 2 with private baths and 3 that share a hall bath. The rooms are not huge but have good light and big windows, which we like very much. She prepared a room especially for us with 2 beds pushed together, that had really comfortable mattresses. My Husband said he could not remember sleeping so well. She has 85 channels on cable TV which was important to us with all of the English channels. The bathroom was spotless and new with the big fluffy towels she had described.

In the morning Shelley prepared a great breakfast of eggs, meats, toast, fruit, fresh orange juice and great coffee, served at the family table downstairs. We had our breakfast early so we could go tour the delightful city. We were given a map and orientation so we could wander through the interesting walkways, take a trolley tour and see amazing buildings built in the 1500s. We had dinner at a sidewalk restaurant on a historic plaza.

The whole time we were there, we had the use of the in-house computer for checking email and telephone. There was a patio upstairs that had tables and chairs and a wonderful view over the city. We relaxed and watched the sunsets with a very nice man who was staying there as well, taking pictures of the mountains and playing soft music on his laptop computer.

The KICKER to all of this was the price; $35 per night for two people! We would go back in a minute. When you see Shelley, tell her Beverly says, "Hi".

“HOME” for the Holidays! Great!- communal sitting rooms so we all have a place to hang out. And we have the run of the place and you won’t take any other guests while our family is there AND you’re giving us a group discount? This is ALL good!”
“We all got keys so we can come and go individually as we please? Thanks for setting up that lovely baby crib and with soft sheets and blankets. It was perfect! Thanks for helping with the baby too and for fixing my sister up so fast when she got sick from street food. That could have been disastrous for a nursing mother.”
“HOME is just perfect! What a Wonderful Family Christmas we had! I’m glad we had a phone number to leave with family back home.”

“I changed my schedule so we can stay four days instead of three. I may ask for one more night." Edna and I sure enjoyed the week that we spent with you in Queretaro. What a gal! We couldn’t believe that after mentioning that we love guitar music, that you could arrange an instant and impromptu guitar concert with two very talented and capable professionals -- and they just did it because they like playing (and singing) and I’m sure, because they consider you a good friend. They wouldn’t even take any money when I offered it to them! That’s an evening to remember forever I’ll tell you! Thank you missy. We’ll be seeing you when Queretaro has its International Guitar Festival, come Spring.

“Thank you so much for the help and the very confortable stay. We will see you middle of next month. We’d like to leave Chris with you for a few weeks to month while we return stateside on business."

"He could take art lessons in three different locations? Good idea! Thanks, we know he’ll be in good hands with you!"

"Thanks for taking such good care of Chris. He loved his art classes and he’s cooked us some of the things you taught him to make. He even washed the dishes! He’s gained over 8 pounds of healthy weight! How did you do that? And you broke him of his candy and Coca-cola habit! That’s a miracle!”

“Gidday! Your info about all of Mexico has been smack on. Because I’m travelling with my young daughter, I don’t want to move around too much, but we needed to get out of Mexico City! I want to say again how valuable our time was with you. It saved me in many ways- rejuvenated my soul and calmed both of us down. Prepared us soooo well for great times ahead! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Hope life’s good to you mate!” Laura

“I got your email address from a friend who stayed there and she HIGHLY recommends that we stay there! Now I will relay your information on to others! Those of us who are cooking-impared love it when someone cooks for us but your breakfasts? WOW!! Many thanks for “HOME” and your hospitality. You made the weekend that much more fun. We’ll spread the good news for sure! See you again in February.”
“Hoping you have 3 rooms for your Canadian gang. Jerry and I would like the top room again, Butterfly Terrace, we think it’s gorgeous and so handy to the patio.
You asked before if we had any preferences for breakfast. I’m putting in a  request for your whole wheat whole grain pancakes with Maple Syrup, homemade Sausage and those fancy eggs the way you make them! They’re great breakfasts! Everything you make is great!” Sue

"I’m happy to hear that you’ve settled into a friendly place with more opportunity. I’ll be sure to schedule a stop in Queretaro to see you again. You sure saved us when the transmission went on our camper in Maravatio. You took charge of the situation and had us settled into your beautiful home with that lovely garden, treated us to wonderful meals and comfy beds, pointed us in the right direction to enjoy the street markets the next morning after breakfast and got a really good price on a good and fast transmission repair. I guess it didn’t hurt that everybody in town knew you and was your friend! I can’t think of a better person to run a bed and breakfast. Everybody KNOWS they’re welcome and will feel right at home! What did you call it?"

Dolores and Kimo………

“We have heard so much good stuff from bear(Frank Fundaro) and Joan Murray about your place called “HOME” and about your cooking!! After seeing the pictures, your place is so nice that we’re building our trip around your availability. Special requests? Oh-yes, I’m a vegetarian and my husband is allergic to shellfish. I don’t like goat or sheep’s milk or cheese. We both drink coffee, we hear yours is great.”

“Just a note to let you know that we arrived alive but very worn out. Just wanted to thank you very very much for helping to make our visit and research go more smoothly with suggestions, contacts for us, and letting us use the computer and phone etc, etc. We really enjoyed getting to know you and hearing your great stories both in and out of Mexico.I don’t know what the future holds for us as far as Mexico is concerned but we’ll keep you posted of any new developments. We’re trying to digest everything we took in and see how we feel about it. Take care and thanks again for all your help. You are a very kind-hearted soul.” Dolores

“Your location is perfect! Thank you so much for taking such good care of us and giving each of us a special diet. It’s a good thing you’re a chef and a nutritional therapist. Thank goodness for your first aid training, especially when Dr. Malvin was going into shock after his fall. You nurse-maided all of us back to health. I’d say that’s above and beyond. You were kind enough to set up several study halls for us besides the desks in our rooms so that we could collaborate on translation works. Thank you. It was truly a wonderful experience. I’m still missing those breakfasts! Great! Great! Great! ¡Muchisimas gracias!” Wendy
